Token authentication allows a user of the integrating application secure access to the Search! webpage without requiring him or her to enter a password in Search! This is realized by letting the integrating application get tokens and provide them to its logged-in users.
Token authentication is only relevant when the Search! web user interface is used. Computer to computer integration using SOAP services does not require the use of tokens as password authentication suffices.
If the integrating application adopts token authentication then it must implement a token request service. See section Token Request Service Specification.
